"Time for Change"
CTRIBAT or Ultimate retreat, is an opportunity for one to get away from the daily fast pace routines and go to a more naturalistic environment to reflect. In addition, CTRIBAT seeks to enhance ones character as well as spirit. CTRIBAT also incorporates a physical component into its entire program to challenge ones overall development. Thus, CTRIBAT could best be described as a program that seeks to develop aspects of Mind-Body-Spirit.
Program Objectives: CTRIBAT Leadership Retreat 2008 “Time for Change”

Development of Coping skills unique to surviving in an Urban City

Building Self Respect and Self Worth

Increasing Exposure to occupational skills
•
Enhancement of verbal and literal communication skills
•
Goal setting and Goal planning and achievement

Health education-hygiene, proper diet and exercise,

Modeling appropriate behaviors and conduct in various settings
•
Character Shaping and being socially autonomous
•
Development of Global Thinking through travel and cultural exposure
Age requirement:
9 yrs. of age to 13 years of age
Location:
located on Route 69, about three miles south of Route 4 in Burlington and
three miles north of Route 6 in Bristol Connecticut.

About the Founder/Executive Director:
Shafiq R.F. Abdussabur is the Founder and Director of CTRIBAT (Children & Teens-Retreat) Institute For Social Development, which in the summer of 2006 reduced gun violence by 400% in the Dixwell Avenue area of New Haven, Connecticut. He has been working with Inner City Youth since 1985. He has four children. Shafiq is an active law enforcement officer in the State of Connecticut with over 12 year of Community Base Police Training and experience. In January of 2007, he was appointed Coordinator of the City of New Haven Street Outreach Workers Program by City of New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr.
He is 41 years old and is a native of New Haven, Connecticut having grown up in various sections of the Inner City. At age 18 he received several college scholarships and attended West Georgia University in Carrollton, Georgia where he lived for approximately six years. He has traveled throughout the Southern States and the Gulf Coast Region. Other travels have included Ontario Canada, Chicago, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, Washington D.C., New Orleans, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and several New England States.
